Transformers – Large Game-Trailer

Posted by admin at 23rd November, 2008

Transformers: The Game is based on Michael Bay’s big action-movie reimagining of the classic giant-robot cartoon and toy franchises that were integral to more than a few adult gamers’ formative years. You’ll play as both the noble Autobots and the evil Decepticons, following both groups as they battle for control of a powerful device that gives the giant bots life. The game lets you race, transform, and smash your way through events that take you into an open world adventure, mirroring the film’s key moments. While the console games feature the slick updates of classic characters, such as Optimus Prime, Megatron, and Bumblebee, the unlockable content offers some cool surprises for fans of the original-generation bots.

Winning Eleven: PES 2008 – Game Trailer

Posted by admin at 21st October, 2008

LEIPZIG, Germany–While last year’s Pro Evolution Soccer was as playable as ever, there was a noticeable uprising among fans who felt the series wasn’t progressing enough. Problems, such as the poor commentary, lack of official licences, and generally poor presentation are becoming increasingly unacceptable. This is particularly true on the next-generation consoles, such as the Xbox 360. So there’s a reasonable amount of pressure on Konami this year to reaffirm Pro Evolution Soccer as the premier football series on the market. While the game convention demo sadly didn’t offer us any insight into the commentary or domestic leagues, it was encouraging to see how much better the game was presented on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 than on previous iterations.

Jumping at the chance to play the first version of Pro Evolution Soccer for the PlayStation 3, we were pleased to see how good the game looked. Now 75 percent through development, the game looks noticeably sharper on the PS3 at this point than on the Xbox 360. The extra fidelity really helps you spot individual players and appreciate the extra detail in the animation. The players also move in a very realistic manner. For example, Argentina’s Cambiasso has a much more laboured running style than Brazil’s Ronaldinho. Both characters were immediately recognisable thanks to the increase in resolution, with a noticeable bald patch on Cambiasso and the trademark long hair on the little Brazilian.

However, the improvements aren’t just limited to the player appearance. While the commentary and sponsors were still not in place for the demo, the menu systems boasted more pizzazz than in previous games. For example, 3D models now show off your kit selection instead of the static models of before. When you pause the game, you now get a live camera feed showing the subs and manager eagerly watching from the dugout. There were also some nice incidental details, such as the way players bend over and tighten their laces when the ball goes out of play. Additional details include the referee visibly blowing a whistle for free kicks and the ripple effect on the netting, which is as nice as ever. Strangely though, the referee doesn’t blow his whistle for kick-off on the PlayStation 3 version, but perhaps this was yet to be included in the preview build.

The PlayStation 2 version of the game on show had fewer teams than the PS3 and 360 versions, with just Brazil and Portugal on offer. It was difficult to spot the differences between this game and its predecessor on the PS2. But on closer inspection, the animation and player likenesses have been improved. The player-ball interaction certainly feels better, and players make more subtle changes to their direction than they did before. We found that the goalkeepers tend to spill the ball more often, especially when deflecting more powerful shots. This was demonstrated by our first goal, which blasted the keeper backward as he waved his arms to stop it in its path. Players also time their sliding tackles much better than they did before, and we were soon performing slides in the box with much more confidence than we did in last year’s game. Players also move their mouths in a more realistic fashion when congratulating teammates on a goal.

We left the Konami booth feeling as though each version of Pro Evolution Soccer 2008 had its subtle differences. The Xbox 360 joypad still feels awkward compared to Sony’s DualShock2 and Sixaxis pads; thus, we hope Konami has spent the last year improving on the last game’s poor Xbox Live code. We also have yet to find out how the PlayStation Network offering will differ from the Xbox Live online play, or if it will even differ at all. The Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC versions of the game will go on sale in October this year, while the Wii version is now promised for next year. With FIFA 08 looking stronger than ever, Christmas certainly looks like an exciting proposition for football fans, and we hope to bring you more on both games in the very near future.

Little Big Planet Game-Trailer for PS3

Posted by admin at 18th October, 2008

Given the abstract nature of the theoretical talk that occurs when the power of the PlayStation 3’s cell processor is brought up, it’s somehow fitting that one of the most intriguing displays of what the system can do should be a unique game from the fine folks who brought us Rag Doll Kung Fu. During Sony’s Game Developers Conference press event last night, Phil Harrison introduced reps from UK-based Media Molecule, who were on hand to show off LittleBigPlanet, an upcoming PS3 title with a funky twist. The demo of the game offered an intriguing showcase for what’s possible with the PS3.

The demo started out with a long sock-puppet critter hanging out in a plain area. The player giving the demo touched on how the control scheme would work and showed off how the Sixaxis’ motion control could be used to move the critter’s head. Once the basics were covered, the host called up a menu and selected some items to place in the area around the critter. The items, such as a felt tree, could be rotated for placement and dropped anywhere. It was also possible to combine items. For example, when a gear was placed on a large piece of wood, it became something that could be interacted with by hanging on it, spinning on it, and running on top of it treadmill style.

Besides physical objects, it was possible to place stickers on the world. In the case of the demo, this included the fabric that formed the walls of the initial area. Once that was shown off, the demo moved to a four-player run-through in an area that had been created ahead of time and showed off the different looks possible for the sock critters. The basic sock critter was joined by a buddy in an Evil Knievel outfit, another wearing a dragon costume, and a more feminine pal. The quartet began at a starting area and then raced to collect sponge, which is a resource needed for making items.

The journey showed off the unique ways you can interact with objects once they’re placed. Upon reaching a high area that couldn’t be reached by jumping, the crew alternately used an orange and a soccer ball as a series of platforms to reach the upper area. It was also possible to swing and jump from the moving soccer ball or use the momentum of the rolling orange to vault there as well. Besides the individual platforming, a later sequence showed off the potential for teamwork as the four characters strapped on jetpacks and worked together to move a large item onto a platform by grabbing it and zipping up to where they needed to go.

The run ended with the four characters dramatically sailing through the air on a skateboard, commemorated with an in-game snap taken by one of the players. At the end of the run, signaled by a helpful “finished” sign, the reps showed off a video that gave an idea of what is going to be possible in the game. The big element in the video was the showcase of how you’ll be able to create and upload levels to the PlayStation Network that others can download and rate. The closing bit of the demo also showed off the game’s nod to Media Molecule’s Rag Doll Kung Fu roots as the characters engaged in a friendly brawl.

The visuals in the game were sharp and featured a mix of modest and photorealistic detail of what was shown. The game’s sandboxlike nature requires a degree of flexibility that’s impressive considering how you can interact and manipulate with what looks to be just about anything. The demo area shown featured an impressive level of scale and interactivity with the demo, opening up in a small area and then opening up into a much bigger one seamlessly. The look of the game is interesting in that it blends real-world objects with more fantastical bits, such as felt trees and stickers. The little sock-puppet characters feature more personality than you’d think, though they definitely lean toward the cute end of the spectrum.

Based on what we’ve seen, LittleBigPlanet is a promising new idea that works as a showcase for the PS3. The visual elements coupled with the gameplay and the impressive amount of customization and online support are intriguing. We’re curious as to the kind of structure the game is going to have, how much “game” will be in there out of the gate, and how much will rely on the user’s imagination. Still, there’s a lot of potential here for some cool stuff that we’re excited to see realized. According to Harrison, LittleBigPlanet will be available for download later this year on the PS3 network and on disc in 2008. Look for more on the game in the coming months.
